A Brief History of Rebellion
On October 1, 2011, we staged a 12 hour marathon performance of “Smells Like Teen Spirit” for Scotiabank Nuit Blanche. Deep inside the inner sanctum of the Toronto Underground Cinema, amateurs and pros alike took turns forever ruining their chances of ever really enjoying the act of listening to Nevermind ever again.
The whole thing was streamed live via the Toronto Star and AUX TV. And a pretty comprehensive summary of all the stupidity was written for Spinner. Highlights included a full klezmer band at 5 a.m., backing up Damian from Fucked Up, and a Tokyo Police Club / Gallows mash-up band. Lowlights include 3 a.m. until 4:59 a.m.
Thanks to all the bands and people that came out and played, including the Decay, Teenage Kicks, the Darcys, Old English, !ATTENTION!, Sheezer, Laura Barrett, Gentleman Reg, the Wavelength All-Star Band, Basia Bulat, Wade MacNeil, Damian Abraham, D-Sisive, Vish Khanna, Tokyo Police Club, Snakeoil Salesmen of Southern Ontario, the Lemon Bucket Orchestra, the Flatliners, Spookey Ruben, Billy Hamilton, Erik Hughes, and the people who somehow stayed until 7 a.m.
